EPA fires back at Waxman with document requests of its own

The Environmental Protection Agency responded to various document requests that Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) has been seeking from the agency with a records request of its own regarding interviews that Waxman himself conducted.

In a letter dated March 14, the EPA asked for transcripts of closed-door interviews that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which Waxman chairs, held with seven senior EPA staffers concerning the agency’s efforts to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. This was one day after Waxman issued a subpoena for 196 internal EPA documents.

The EPA wanted to ensure that the information provided “by agency employees in their official capacity is accurate and complete,” the letter stated.

Throughout the last two months, Waxman has made repeated demands for EPA documents related to the agency’s deliberations on global warming as well as its refusal to let California regulate its greenhouse gas auto emissions.
