Los Angeles police chief skeptical of anti-paparazzi law

On Tuesday, Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton criticized a proposed city law to create a “personal safety zone” protecting celebrities from aggressive paparazzi. He said the measure was vague and would be difficult to enforce.

Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine introduced the motion in light of the police escort for troubled singer Britney Spears in January, which cost the city $25,000. Zine contends that the photographers in the city pose a danger to both celebrities and the general public.

Critics question the constitutionality of the “bubble proposal,” especially because California already has anti-paparazzi laws. Concerns have also arisen about the definition of a “celebrity” and “paparazzo.”
