The Associated Press announced it intends to sue the West Virginia Supreme Court for violating the state’s Freedom of Information Act.

AP claims the high court failed to comply with the law when it deemed e-mails, visitor logs and other records of Chief Justice Elliott Maynard were not subject to FOIA requests. The court did release information relating to other court employees.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette intends to sue West Virginia University for violating its state open records law in three document requests the paper submitted to the school.

In a complaint the Post-Gazette sent to the university and the state attorney general, the newspaper said the school failed to respond in a timely manner to the requests, withheld some public documents entirely and redacted other information by intentionally misapplying exemptions under the law.

The public may no longer be able to see the more than 2,800 names registered for concealed weapons licenses in Cabell County, W.Va., if a bill restricting this access makes it way through the state legislature.
