12. Sex offender records.

D.C. Code Ann. § 22-4011 gives the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency for D.C. the authority to maintain registration of sex offenders, to affirmatively inform persons (through electronic notification, media release, or telephone calls, for example) regarding sec offenders, and to make information about sec offenders available for public inspection or in response to inquiries.  The Code gives the Metropolitan Police Department authority and control over the system of public inspection by means of the Internet.
