In M. G. L. c. 119 § 38, Massachusetts makes all hearings under the chapter (Protection and Care of Children, and Proceedings Against Them) closed to the public, except those concerning medical treatment of children in the custody of the state. It is unlawful to print the names of the minors involved. M. G. L. c. 119 § 38. Proceedings covered include custody hearings, visitation hearings, child support proceedings, adoption, and issues concerning children accused of a crime. See M. G. L. c. 119 §§ 1-38A.
