QUICKLINK New York · January 6, 2009 · Libel Supermodel demands Google release the name of secret blogger Keywords: Anonymous Speech; Bloggers; Defamation
A supermodel has demanded that Google release the identity of a blogger who called her a "skank" and an "old hag", reports the New York Daily News. Liskula Cohen filed the defamation suit in a New York state court, and asked the judge to issue a court order requiring Google to identify the person she says defamed her on a blog operated by its Blogger.com service. The Vogue cover model complains that the unidentified blogger called her the “#1 skanky superstar” and referred to her as a “forty-something” who “may have been hot 10 years ago,” according to the Daily News. Cohen’s case is one of several recent defamation lawsuits in which the plaintiffs have gone after the identities of anonymous bloggers to bolster their cases. Although there is no uniform standard, courts usually apply a test that generally requires the plaintiff to first prove that the blogger’s remarks are defamatory. In several such instances recently, bloggers have succeeded in keeping their names secret. — Samantha Fredrickson, 1:48 pm Comments: (5) Comment by Joey, Thu, Jan 8, 10:32am Seems the guy was just giving his opinion. I don't think this is worth clogging up the court system with. The skank should just let this go.
Comment by Frank, Thu, Jan 8, 3:12pm I checked her out on News 10. In polite circles one does not resort to unflatering names, in poor taste. Anyway, if the model wants to promote the Society for the emaciated or Champion the cause of the starving in third world countries, well Bully for her!
Comment by Diana, Sun, Jan 18, 5:49pm Obviously people have the freedom of speech but this blogger needs to use some decency. It seems as if the blogger must be looking into a mirror!
