If you choose to use this site, you will be agreeing to abide by all of the terms and conditions of these terms of service.
We do not charge for this service. However, because we are a nonprofit organization with an interest in helping journalists obtain information from government bodies, we do not have the resources to maintain this site with the level of security and safety of most commercial sites. We have made and will continue to make reasonable attempts to maintain the security of this site and of your account, but do not warrant that this information will be completely secure.
Before using this service, you must understand that we cannot make any guarantees of security and safety beyond the effort to provide password protection used in this site, along with any security measures implemented by our Web services provider. Your account information will be stored in a database on a public Web server, and may be subject to security threats from malicious outsiders.
Use of this service is provided on an "AS IS" BASIS and WITHOUT WARRANTY, either express or implied, including, without limitation, warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
The Reporters Committee manages this service for journalists. While we do not require proof of employment as a journalist as a term of service, we reserve the right to limit any account if we feel the information stored in the account is not of a journalistic nature and is excessive in quantity.
You may not use a member ID or email address of another person with the intent to impersonate that person, or without such person's authorization. Failure to comply with this requirement shall constitute a breach of these terms of service, which may result in immediate termination of your account.
You shall be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password, which you will not have to reveal to any representative of the Reporters Committee.
We will not collect or compile information about your usage, except as necessary to maintain the operation of our service or ensure compliance with these terms of service. We will not intentionally disclose information about your account or usage to any other party under any circumstances, except in compliance with a properly issued subpoena. We will attempt to contact you for an opportunity to oppose such a subpoena before we comply if you have registered an email address in your account.
We reserve the right to change or discontinue any aspect of the service at any time, including the availability of any feature or content. We may also impose limits on certain features and services or restrict your access to parts or all of the service without notice or liability.
While the Reporters Committee reserves the right to change, add or remove portions of these terms of service at any time, we do not anticipate that changes will be made except to further protect the security of the information on the site.
If any of these rules or any future changes are unacceptable to you, you may cancel your account by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
