Celebrating a 50-Year Legacy
The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press was founded in 1970 by a small group of journalists who banded together to fight for the right to protect their sources against government subpoenas. Today, the Reporters Committee is the leading nonprofit organization providing legal services to reporters and news organizations — at no cost to them.
The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press recognizes journalism and media law leaders whose work demonstrates a deep commitment to the First Amendment and press freedom at its annual Freedom of the Press Awards Dinner. The Reporters Committee also presents an annual Rising Star Award to honor young leaders who are forwarding the cause of press freedom.
There are a number of ways for you to show your support for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and its 50-year legacy of standing up for the First Amendment and the public’s right to know. If you are interested in sponsoring the 50th Anniversary Celebration and the 2020 Freedom of the Press Awards, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
