Cindy Gierhart

Cindy works primarily on issues of privacy, libel, confidentiality and newsgathering. Originally from the Chicago area, she received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois, where she worked as a reporter, assistant news editor, wire editor and editorial page editor for the Daily Illini. She then worked as a Dow Jones copy-editing intern at The State newspaper in South Carolina before working as a reporter at the Beverly Citizen and as news editor at the Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise, both in Massachusetts. She also worked as a project manager in book publishing and received her master’s degree in international law from the University for Peace in Costa Rica before deciding to go to law school. Cindy attended the American University Washington College of Law, from which she graduated magna cum laude in May 2013 and served as Editor in Chief of the American University International Law Review. While in law school, Cindy worked as a research associate for the Public International Law & Policy Group and as a writing fellow with the Legal Rhetoric Department. She also interned for the Broadcasting Board of Governors, Public Justice and the U.S. State Department.
