Jake Flanagin will conduct policy research and legal analysis on issues at the intersection of press freedom and emerging technology as the Reporters Committee’s 2018 Yelp Policy Fellow. Issues he will be working on include digital security, the Freedom of Information Act, a federal shield bill, and other policy matters that affect news reporting. Before joining the organization, Jake was a law clerk in the Judiciary Committee office of U.S. Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, and a legal intern with the national political advocacy department of the American Civil Liberties Union. He holds a bachelor's degree from New York University, and will receive his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in May 2019. Prior to entering law school, Jake was an editorial staffer and reporter for a number of media organizations, including The Atlantic, The New York Times, and Quartz.
