H. Post-trial records


The Supreme Court has not directly addressed this subject, but it has noted that “the courts of this country recognize a general right to inspect and copy public records and documents, including judicial records and documents.” Nixon v. Warner Communications, Inc., 435 U.S. 589, 597 (1978) (footnote omitted).

New Jersey

There is no right of access to probation reports, even if they may be relevant to a defendant’s alleged criminal activity while on bail. See In re Boganski, 22 Media L. Rep. 1474 (N.J. Super. Ct. App. Div. 1994).
