Is 12-Year Fight Over Hospital Records Finally Over?

Since 1994, a hospital owned by a taxing district in West Volusia County has been fighting with the Daytona Beach News Journal over whether its meetings and records were public. There have been several laws enacted on the hospital’s behalf and several court cases – and perhaps now a final decision. A state appeals court ruled that with the outright sale of the hospital last year to a private company, the operation is no longer subject to state access laws because the hospital does not act on behalf of a public entity.
