3 Florida Lobbyists Sue Legislature Over Fee Disclosure Law

It would not normally be considered good form for a lobbyist to sue the lawmakers they seek to influence, but that’s what three top lobbyists are doing in response to a bill that requires public disclosure of their incomes. The three, including Ken Plante, chairman of the Florida Association of Professional Lobbyists, say the disclosure law adopted in a December special session violates nine provisions of the Florida Constitution, including the rights to privacy, freedom of speech and equal protection. Twenty-nine other states require lobbyists to disclose their fees. (2/20/06)
