On Oct. 14, 2015, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press celebrated its 45th anniversary year with a reception and fundraiser for some 150 guests at the offices of Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C.
The cornerstone of the evening was an in-depth discussion with Reporters Committee Chairman Pierre Thomas (below, center right) posing questions to former Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. (center left) about "Freedom of the Press Today." Holder and Thomas were introduced by Reporters Committee Executive Director Bruce Brown (left).
The program began with a moment to remember Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, who is imprisoned in Iran. Rezaian's brother Ali Rezaian, sister-in-law Naomi Tamura, his legal team from WilmerHale, and colleagues from The Washington Post were in attendance. Watch the Holder-Thomas discussion below. (Audience Q&A video is posted below the photos.)
Lead sponsors for the event were Covington & Burling, LLP; Microsoft; and WilmerHale. Additional sponsors were: BakerHostetler; Davis Wright Tremaine LLP; Jenner & Block, LLP; Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, LLP; POLTICO; Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, LLP; Vinson & Elkins LLP; and The Washington Post.
