The Society of Professional Journalists and nine non-journalism groups have filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the US Court of Appeals in Washington suggesting a compromise in the legal battle for access to records of Energy Task Force Vice President Cheney created in 2001 to advise on energy policy. The Supreme Court had suggested in the suit brought by the Sierra Club and Judicial Watch that the lower court consider ways to reconcile the dispute. The brief suggests creation of a “log” listing basic details of documents sought, details such as the names of participants and dates of meetings that would not compromise the claimed executive confidentiality.
