Social Security Numbers Prompts Records Withdrawal

Court clerks in two South Carolina counties have asked a private company that handles electronic records management to withdraw from its internet postings documents containing Social Security numbers of residents. The company, Affiliated Computer Services, posts land sales and tax lien data from York and Berkeley County records that in some instances contains Social Security numbers. It said it did not have software available to automatically redact the information. (12/30/04)
