The Society of Environmental Journalists has protested a proposed Nuclear Regulatory Commission rule on safeguarding information and asked the agency to extend the comment period to allow further analysis. SEJ said the information protection system outlined in the rule lacks “the controls and checks that are built into the national security classification system” and could “diminish public awareness of nuclear safety and security issues and relieve the NRC and involved industries of public pressure to address them.” CJOG sent a letter in support of the SEJ petition.
