Illinois is one to two states that prohibit public release of a vehicle’s accident record, which means the vehicle history reports a used car purchaser gets there doesn’t include any in-state accidents. Several legislators want to change that but their bill is facing heavy lobbying from car dealers, who contend the reports are inaccurate and the bill would hurt business. The other state is Oregon.
