New York’s Assembly passed eight open government bills designed to increase transparency and ensure compliance with Freedom of Information laws. The bills permit the awarding of attorneys fees to requesters, make public records of the State Ethics Commission and the Legislative Ethics Committee, strengthen the Open Meetings Law by providing alternative judicial remedies, improve electronic accessibility of information subject, and require records which are to be the subject of discussion at meetings to be made available to the public upon request.
