Three senators have asked the General Accountability Office to investigate the decision-making process leading to the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed relaxation of reporting standards for toxic chemical releases. Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Jim Jeffords (I-VT), and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) asked the GAO to determine if the agency had considered the impact of modified data reporting on communities and information users.
