A bill designed to limit the use of “pseudo-classification” designations like “sensitive but unclassified” was approved 32-0 by the House Government Reform Committee and reported to the full House, Secrecy News reported. The bill, HR 5112, sponsored by Committee Chairman Tom Davis, R-VA and Ranking Member Henry Waxman, D-CA, calls for a series of reports from the Archivist of the United States leading up to regulations in 15 months banning the use of pseudo-classifiers. The bill also would end secret meetings of lobbyists and most executive branch officials, enhance whistleblower protection and ban covert government-sponsored propaganda. (4/6/06)
