Wisconsin Assembly Keeps Victim Names in Public Record

The Wisconsin Assembly dropped a provision in a bill that would have required police and other law enforcement officials to keep secret the names of crime victims if the individual requested privacy. “It would be a devastating blow to the basic traditions of our justice system, which is we do not have secret courts … we do not have a tradition of people being able to make charges against other people and remain anonymous,” said Bill Lueders , president of the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council.
