The Federal Communications Commission said it is “unable” to investigate alleged privacy violations resulting from the National Security Agency’s gathering of records on phone calls with the help of telecommunications companies. Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., who had asked for the investigation, said the FCC had “abdicated its responsibility to protect Americans privacy … without asking a single question.” (5/24/06)
