Alaska’s Gov. Frank Murkowski is the latest public official to use the withholding of notices as a way to punish an unpopular reporter. Murkowski, however, isn’t disguising his actions. “We’re sick of him,” a spokesman said in explaining why a longtime freelance journalist, Bob Tkacz, will no longer get any official communications from the governor’s office. The restricted information flow is not expected to hinder Tkacz, or keep him from press conferences. Other reporters have told him they’ll forward him news releases and announcements. (8/3/06)
