Judge Won’t Lift Publishing Ban; Paper Reports What It Knows

A Florida circuit court judge, who closed a criminal plea hearing and then directed the Naples Daily News not to publish information about the case, refused to lift his order. The paper said it will appeal and published information it had previously reported and along with new information from the public record. The case involves a man arrested on 23 felony and three misdemeanor charges, including grand theft, operating a chop shop, cocaine trafficking and carrying a concealed weapon. (8/16/06)
