Last year, Wired News filed a Freedom of Information Act request for records related to a computer virus that crippled border-screening computers at the Department of Homeland Security. When the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection eventually released three heavily redacted documents, Wired went to federal court, where a judge uncovered some of the censored text. Wired’s report, presenting the documents in both forms, reveals much about the art of redaction. (11/2/06)
