Whistleblowing Increases, But at a Price

The Office of the Special Counsel reported that the average number of federal employees filing whistle-blower disclosures each year with the government has risen 43% since 2001. The average for the previous four years was 376. In the past four years, the incidents of whistleblowing averaged 537. The Special Counsel’s office whistle-blower cases if employees prefer not to directly confront their bosses about suspicions of wrongdoing. In a story on the increase, USA Today reported that an increasing number of whistle-blowers allege that rather than being embraced, they’re being retaliated against by their agencies for coming forward.
