Marshals Service: Scalia Agents Broke No Laws at 2004 Speech

For three years, The U.S. Marshals Service stonewalled on the seizure of journalists’ cameras and recordings at a speech by Justice Antonin Scalia in Hattiesburg, Miss. Now records obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show the service concluded in an internal investigation that the marshals involved broke no laws. However, the agency admitted in a civil lawsuit that it violated the Privacy Protection Act and that it adopted new procedures on dealing with the media. The agency declined to disclose whether any disciplinary action was taken. (6/18/07)
