When Really Pressed, Note That It’s a State Secret

Here we go again with the State Secrets Excuse, writes Washington Post blogger Dan Froomkin, pointing to White House spokesman Tony Snow’s assurance that the apparent lie told by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on a conversation about secret surveillance could be easily clarified if only the information didn’t have to remain classified. The idea, as Snow ultimately acknowledges at a press briefing, is that we’ll probably never know. (7/27/07)
