Solving the SBU Problem Will Start With a New Acronym

The federal government will soon change the way it labels and safeguards sensitive but unclassified information, now a maze of more than 100 acronyms, in an effort to help inter-agency information sharing. The change will require still another acronym, CUI or Controlled Unclassified Information, which will have three levels of sensitivity, like the classification system. The plan that will go to the president next month will define each of the levels and provide guidelines for their use. (8/1/07)
