A hearty applause to the United States Senate which just passed by unanimous consent a revised version of the OPEN Government Act  that improves the process by which the federal government carries out FOIA’s disclosure requirements.

The bill creates an independent ombudsman, creates tracking systems so the public can easily track the status of requests,  and aids the recovery  legal costs when agencies improperly deny requests.

Now its onto the House where similarly decisive action should put the bill in front of the President before the new year.
