The Department of Defense is about to eliminate the scores of document markings, such as “For Official Use Only” that are now used to control the disclosure of unclassified information. In their place, the department will use a new, standardized marking, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). The DoD’s action follows a presidential order to all government agencies to clean up the use of sensitive but unclassified information markings. There are at least 131, according to a report last spring. (1/16/08)
