Getting a jump on Sunshine Week, Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-VT, and John Cornyn, R-TX, introduced a new bill designed to block any effort to secretly or indirectly amend the Freedom of Information Act. The OPEN FOIA Act of 2008 would require that any legislation proposing a new statutory exemption specifically cite to FOIA. A similar bill passed the Senate last year. Sen. Leahy called the bill’s introduction “a fitting start to Sunshine Week,” March 16-22. (3/12/08)
