Carol Rosenberg

Carol Rosenberg Covers detention camps and national security stories for The New York Times. Before moving to The Times in February 2019, Rosenberg was a staff correspondent for The Miami Herald for almost 20 years. She has served as the Middle East correspondent, Washington correspondent, Foreign Affairs writer and Military Affairs correspondent.

She was a professional journalism fellow at Stanford University 1994-95 and in the prior seven years lived and worked in the Middle East. Earlier in her career, she worked for United Press International in Massachusetts, New York, Washington D.C. and then Jerusalem.

She has covered the Guantanamo Bay detention center and related controversies since before the first prisoners arrived there on Jan. 11, 2002, and is the lone journalist to document the operations in the earliest days until present. The former Supreme Allied Commander of Europe dubbed her the dean of the Guantanamo press corps.

She has received numerous national awards, including most recently the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights’ 2011 Domestic Reporting Prize. She tweets live @carolrosenberg.
