Panel: “Fighting for law enforcement records — and winning!

Date: April 15, 2026
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

RCFP’s Paula Knudsen Burke will join this panel hosted by The Pen & Pencil Club, which examines how to obtain and report on law enforcement records through Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know Law. Burke will discuss updates on the current state of the law and how reporters across Pennsylvania are fighting for these records.


Conference session: “The Cost of Bearing Witness: Journalist Safety in a Polarized America

Date: April 21, 2026
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

RCFP’s Mara Gassmann will join this panel at NAB Show 2026, which discusses how reporters are navigating public demonstrations, protests, and volatile civic moments; what protections exist for journalists, and, if they’re effective; how newsrooms should prepare journalists for these environments; and what responsibility institutions have to defend press access and safety.


Event: RCFP Spring Summit

Date: April 30, 2026
Location: Normal, Illinois

RCFP’s Kris Cundiff and Gabe Rottman will lead this Midwest summit at Illinois State University in partnership with WGLT, Bloomington-Normal’s Public Media and part of the NPR Network. The summit will cover topics such as libel insurance and pre-publication review, newsgathering protections, and covering immigration enforcement. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.
