The Texas Department of Public Safety has spent more than $160,000 in legal fees in an effort to avoid complying with the state’s public records law, an attorney general’s ruling and a district court decision, the Texas Observer reported. The Observer had asked for surveillance tapes that might confirm a high-powered lobbying effort behind the House chamber in May, 2005.
