AP Study Shows Continuing FOIA Delays, Request Backlog

Federal agencies continue to fall short of information access requirements established in the Freedom of Information Act, the Associated Press reported, using data from agency reports over the past seven years. The AP noted that most even missed the Feb. 1 deadline set by the President for appointing a Chief FOIA Officer. The AP study showed backlogs are growing, with a 24 percent increase last year, and that intelligence agencies are continuing a trend to release less information. (3/15/06)
