Arizona Audit: Some Records, and a Lot of Delays

An Arizona records audit, spearheaded by the Associated Press Managing Editors of Arizona, showed that about half the state and local agencies in the test failed to turned over requested public documents within a week and about half that did delayed their release. In their story on the audit, the Arizona Daily Sun also reported on a woman who had asked police for their records on the murder of her brother and been given 10 pages of documents. She hired an attorney and a private investigator and eventually got 800 more pages from the case file. (12/21/04)
