Attorney General Michael Mukasey told the House Judiciary Committee that the reporter-source shield law already passed by that chamber will “eliminate our ability to prosecute leaks of classified information.” Without being specific, he said there had been several leaks in recent years that were detrimental to national security. He suggested that the Justice Department’s self-imposed guidelines on when to subpoena reporters are sufficient protection. (2/7/08)
