Amelia Kennedy

Deputy Communications Director

As the deputy communications director for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, Amelia shapes and implements integrated communications strategies to raise awareness of the organization's mission and connect journalists, news organizations, documentary filmmakers, media lawyers and others with the Reporters Committee and its resources. In her role, she works to elevate the profile of key Reporters Committee programs and projects, and leads media relations efforts that help inform news coverage of First Amendment issues with the perspectives and expertise of the organization's leading attorneys.

Prior to joining the Reporters Committee, Amelia was a Senior Account Executive in the media relations and brand positioning practices at GMMB, a full-service communications firm in D.C., where she worked alongside mission-driven nonprofits, foundations, and trade associations. She has also worked in her home state of North Carolina at the strategic communications firm Capstrat (now Ketchum), and led communications and public relations efforts for Wake Forest University School of Law.

Amelia graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in journalism, specializing in political communication, and a bachelor's degree in peace, war, and defense, focusing on national and international defense and security. While at UNC, she worked as a staff reporter for the independent student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel.
