Eric Feder

Local Legal Initiative Director

Eric Feder is the director of the Local Legal Initiative at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.

Eric joined the Reporters Committee in June 2025 after more than 12 years at the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, where he was most recently a partner in the media litigation group in Washington, D.C.  At DWT, Eric defended news organizations, entertainment companies, and writers on a wide range of media law issues, including defamation, copyright infringement and fair use, right of publicity, and reporter’s privilege and source protection. He also litigated and counseled on newsgathering matters, including seeking access to court proceedings and obtaining public records through state and federal freedom of information laws. In addition to litigation, Eric worked closely with his clients to provide pre-publication and pre-broadcast counseling to help them avoid legal risk from the content they produced.

Earlier in his career, Eric clerked for Judge J. Paul Oetken and Judge Kimba M. Wood on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and worked as an associate in the litigation department of Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher. He holds a J.D. from the New York University School of Law.

Admitted to practice in New York, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
