The Senate Homeland Security, Government Affairs Committee approved a bill (S 2590) that creates a searchable website database of information on government contracts and grants. The committee chair, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Me., and the ranking member, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-CT., asked the measure be fast-tracked. The bill was introduced by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-OK, and Barack Obama, D-IL and had 29 co-sponsors when Congress took its summer break. (8/9/06)
