ACLU v. DHS

Post categories

  1. Freedom of Information

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and 23 media organizations filed an amicus brief in support of the ACLU in ACLU v. DHS, a FOIA case in the 9th Circuit. The ACLU filed a FOIA request seeking disclosure of records regarding allegations of mistreatment and abuse of minors in immigration detention.  The government produced responsive records but withheld the names of all of the accused DHS officials pursuant to FOIA Exemptions 6 and 7(C).  The amicus brief argues that the names cannot be withheld pursuant to Exemption 7(C).  The Cornell Law School First Amendment Clinic represented the Reporters Committee on the brief.
