Testimony regarding DC’s police bodycam program

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press submitted testimony on Oct. 21 to the Council of the District of Columbia in advance of a Judiciary and Public Safety Committee hearing to discuss the Metropolitan Police Department’s five-year-old body camera program. RCFP argued that timely access to body camera video is essential for journalists to ensure transparency and accountability. Additionally, RCFP’s testimony encouraged the Metropolitan Police Department to improve its process for retaining and storing body camera video.
