Letter Regarding Andrew Feinberg White House Hard Pass

The Reporters Committee sent a letter to the White House Press Office to express its concern regarding the White House’s failure to grant journalist Andrew Feinberg’s application for a hard pass or even explain the basis for this denial and the standard used to make that decision.  The letter explains that the lack of a hard pass creates significant reporting challenges for journalists who cover the White House, depriving them of access when the president travels and causing delays that sometimes even prevent them from covering press briefings or events, particularly on short notice.  The Reporters Committee also stressed that to the extent the White House has adopted new standards for determining eligibility for a hard pass, it must make these standards known and apply them consistently.
