CIA Director Faults Media for Compromising Agency Source

Central Intelligence Agency Director Michael Hayden told the Council on Foreign Relations that unauthorized disclosures of classified information in the press led to imprisonment of a CIA source. He said other reports had compromised also CIA assets and damaged the confidence of sources. He provided no details but used the references to say while anyone who leaks information is subject to criminal penalties, “those who seek information and then choose to publish it are not without responsibilities.” (9/11/07)
