CIA Leak Prosecutor Softens Position on Sealed Documents

CIA leak special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald back away from a blanket protective order he was seeking to seal evidence against I. Lewis Libby, previously Vice President Dick Cheney’s top aide. He also said he’d seek to present evidence to a new grand jury. The Associated Press and Dow Jones went to court to oppose an earlier proposal by Fitzgerald that would have barred Libby and his legal team from publicly disclosing “all materials produced by the government.” Fitzpatrick said he as much as possible “the pretrial litigation and the trial itself should be conducted in open court with publicly filed documents.” (11/22/05)
