A coalition of environmental and civic organizations gathered more than 20,000 signatures in an effort to put on the May ballot a charter amendment requiring the city of Austin to post substantially more information about city business online. The groups specifically cite information about development permitting, contracting and tax abatement deals. Home builders and other business groups oppose the measure. (2/23/06)
