CJOG Questions Expansion of SSI to Rails and Transit

The Coalition of Journalists for Open Government urged the Transportation Security Administration to rethink its proposed rule expanding the use of Sensitive Security Information to rail and transit security issues. The coalition said the proposed regulations expand this fourth level of classification without restrictions on who may declare information SSI, or what information may be included in reports automatically accepted as SSI. We also noted that there are no time limits on how long information designated as SSI remains confidential. (2/22/07)
