The Navy Times reports that the Coast Guard has decided to change its policy on disclosing names in rescue cases, releasing names only during an active operation. Once a case is closed, a new memorandum says, anyone seeking information will have to file a Freedom of Information Act request. The Times said the Coast Guard generally believes names of those rescued are protected under FOIA’s privacy exemption. (9/11/07)
